Sony ULT Wear Review: Build and Comfort Complaints Lead the Early Feedback

Quick take

Owner discussion of the Sony ULT Wear is still limited, and what's there skews cautionary. The clearest signal is durability: owners report hinges and headbands failing within a year. Add button glitches, a comfort complaint and sound that needs EQ, and the early picture is mixed at best. A couple of buyers consider them for ANC and find them clearer than older gear, but the evidence base is small — go in informed.

Buying Verdict

Weak recommendation
Buyer Signal Score 2.3 / 5

Genuine owner discussion of the Sony ULT Wear is thin, and the strongest signal is not flattering: durability. Owners report hinges breaking and headbands degrading within about a year, in reports involving more than one pair. Other niggles add up — the ULT and ANC buttons being problematic even after a reset, a comfort complaint serious enough that one borrower returned them, and sound that owners feel needs EQ to come right. On the upside, a couple of buyers weigh them for ANC and one found them louder and clearer than a decade-old headset, but those are comparison-stage impressions rather than long-term endorsements. With limited evidence and durability the dominant theme, approach with eyes open — and if build worry is your sticking point, a step up to Sony's WH-1000XM6 or a sound-focused rival is worth weighing.

Headband again Hey everyone this is my second pair of Ult Wear, the first one had problems with the hinge and headband, it was part of the Headphones that reported problems, so I got a change for free. Right now, after a year, I have this problem, the hinge is great, but the headband, is bad, I dont have guarantee, so I dont know what to do to solve it. Ult Wear Ult Wear

Sony Ult wear Hinge broke Uhh i have been struck too 🤧 I have recently bought 2 pairs of sony ult wears a few months back (They are still under 1 year warranty I think so) Interestingly i brought both the pairs at the same time , on from Amazon which was a newer build and one from Flipkart which was a little older build Set that aside the main problem is that both of the headphones are from the affected batch 🫩, and one of them broke , now I really dont know the procedure to get them **REPLACED** not repaired

Got the Ult Wear Recently Okay, so, it was a tossup between this and the Accentum Plus headphones. I had initially wanted the XM4s cuz I thought that by now they'd be a bit cheaper. Well, turns out they are not. And the XM5s are really not worth the asking price imo, so i went with the Ult Wear. Didn't choose the Sennheiser partly cuz of their buggy software updates (had some previous earbuds whose sound was butchered by a software update), and partly cuz in my area sony support is better than Sennheiser. Sony Ult Wear Button Problems I've bought these sony ult wears from best buy last week, and the ULT and ANC/NC buttons have been problematic. Have to turn the headphones off and on a couple times to actually get the buttons to work. I've factory reset it multiple times; still having problems. Any solution? it's updated and has no physical wear on it. sony ult wears sony ult wears

Also, can anyone comment on if they are more comfortable than the Sony Ult Wear (which I find uncomfortable and am giving them back to who I loaned them from). These seem like a pretty good deal even if they are relatively old and other headphone im considering are the first gen Bose quiet comfort ultras (\~$279.99 at bestbuy right now) or possibly some Beats Studio pros. Also, I don’t want overly bass heavy music (which the ult wear DEFINITELY have) but I also don’t want no base either. Also how is build quality o

Are the Sony ULT Wears good enough? Hi all, Ive been using my trusty SteelSeries Siberia 840s for the last 10 years to listen to music when not using them for gaming, and have decided maybe it's time to get a pair of dedicated "real headphones". I've got my eyes on the Sony ULT Wear, but based on reviews I've seen they seem more geared towards hip-hop or other bass heavy music. I do love hip-hop, but I also listen to lots of high energy metal with heavy/complex vocals. I do feel like however I should point out I

stronger anc 2026-01-06

I’m trying to decide between the Edifier ES850NB and the Sony ULT WEAR and could use some real-world input. Main use is open office + commuting + long listening sessions, so comfort and noise cancelling are my top priorities, with sound quality right behind that. From what I’ve gathered so far: Sony seems to have stronger ANC, especially for voices and general office noise Edifier seems to have softer pads and warmer sound that people find more enjoyable for music Comfort-wise, it sounds like Edifier is more “cozy

Buying Questions About Sony ULT Wear

Quick answers to the main review, complaints, buyer-fit, and comparison questions shoppers ask before choosing Sony ULT Wear.

Is the Sony ULT Wear reliable, or do the hinges and headband break?

Durability is the main concern in the feedback so far. Owners report hinges breaking and headbands degrading within about a year, in reports involving more than one pair, so registering for warranty is wise.

Are the Sony ULT Wear comfortable?

It's not universal — one person found them uncomfortable enough to return them to who they borrowed from. With limited feedback, try before buying if comfort is a priority.

Do the Sony ULT Wear buttons have problems?

At least one owner reported the ULT and ANC/NC buttons being problematic from the first week, needing the headphones power-cycled to respond, with a reset not fixing it.

Does the Sony ULT Wear need EQ to sound good?

One owner felt the sound needed EQ adjustment to come right. As a bass-forward Sony, dialing in the EQ to taste is worth doing.

Should I buy the Sony ULT Wear or step up to the WH-1000XM6?

If build durability or all-round sound and ANC are your priority, Sony's WH-1000XM6 is a stronger, better-documented option. The ULT Wear's appeal is its bass-forward tuning at a lower price, but weigh the durability reports.
