I got a DELL XPS 15 and I like it. It was around $1100 iirc. Handles MATLAB, AutoCAD, Inventor, and everything else I've put on it so far. Would highly recommend it! Saves you some cash and still handles everything I need it to.

It idled at 40-60C and gaming was around 70C until I allowed the CPU to boost past 2.4ghz then idle temps were 60-70C and gaming temps were instantly 90-100 and the delta between cores was over 19C in some cores.
