The Focal Bathys occupies a rare position in the Bluetooth audiophile headphone market, combining Focal's driver technology with wireless convenience at a price that earns genuine enthusiasm from owners who compare it against both Sony XM4-class and Sennheiser audiophile alternatives. Sound quality is consistently praised — one owner called it the best-sounding, best-fitting Bluetooth headphone they'd tried, and another found it more versatile across content types than the Sennheiser HD 490 Pro. The documented concern is build quality: at least one owner experienced build failure after approximately 10 months of regular wired PC use.
Buying Verdict
Early read
Buyers who want high-quality wireless audio without sacrificing the sound character of a proper audiophile headphone will find the Focal Bathys a credible option. The comparison evidence suggests it sits above Sony's XM4-class in sound — an owner who moved from XM4s to the Bathys specifically cited the more enjoyable bass — while trading blows with the Sennheiser HD 490 Pro depending on the content. The build failure reported after 10 months of primary wired use is a real caveat: buyers who plan to use the Bathys as both a wireless and daily-driver wired headphone should factor durability into the decision. As a primarily wireless headphone for listening rather than desktop tethering, the risk is lower.

Headphone Help / Suggestions Hi all! I have been on the hunt for a great bluetooth audiophile headphone. I am stuck now between the Focal Bathys MG and the Sennheiser HBD 630. I prefer the natual sound of the hbd 630 vs the MG but the MG fit way better (i have bigger ears). I tried the wicked moment 4 gel pads on the hbd 630 but it alters the sound too much and ruins ANC. I also can't seem to justify almost 3 times the cost for the MG over the HBD 630. I do enjoy the MGs, especially for the sound stage it c
They're both good, but different beasts. My main two are the Focal Bathys (with the BTD700) and HD490 pro. The HD 490 Pro sounds *better* than the Bathys with some songs, whilst others sound significantly worse. However the Bathys sound great with everything. Enjoy each for their strengths, but you'll ruin the experience if you make it a competition. Also, don't be married to your initial reaction. Your brain will be wired to whatever it's used to, you really need a good week of listening to new headphones for
Focal Bathys MG, amazing bluetooth headphones The best sounding, fitting, and feeling bluetooth headphones I've tried so far. I really liked the sound coming from my Sennheiser HDB 630. These headphones here… I really, REALLY like the sound from these. More enjoyable bass and slightly wider sound. They feel more comfortable. A step up in room for my ears compared to the HDB 630. 1 step closer to HIFIMAN size cups (but still very far). In hand, they feel nice and heavy. I wouldn't like these if I was frail. They ha

Focal Bathys build disappointment and replacement suggestions I've been using my Focal Bathys as my main wired pc headphone for about 10 months now after my Sony XM4s failed at the plastic pivot after 5 years of daily use. Let me say I like the sound quality for a wireless headphone but I am disappointed at the build quality of this set for USD$650. When I first got them, I was surprised to discover that the ear cups were not made of metal or some type of alloy which I expected from the pictures considerin

Buying Questions About Focal Bathys
Quick answers to the main review, complaints, buyer-fit, and comparison questions shoppers ask before choosing Focal Bathys.
How does Focal Bathys sound compared to Sony WH-1000XM4?
An owner who moved from Sony XM4s to the Focal Bathys described the Bathys as meaningfully better — particularly the bass, which they found more enjoyable. The Bathys is positioned as an audiophile step-up rather than a direct Sony alternative.
Is Focal Bathys better than Sennheiser HD 490 Pro?
An owner who runs both describes them as complementary rather than one clearly winning. The HD 490 Pro sounds better on specific songs, while the Bathys is more versatile across varied content and has the wireless advantage. If you're deciding between the two for wired-only critical listening, the 490 Pro edges it on some material.
Is Focal Bathys reliable long-term?
One owner experienced a build failure after approximately 10 months of use as a primary wired PC headphone. This is a single documented case, but it's a notable caveat for the price. Buyers who plan primarily wireless use face lower durability risk.
Does Focal Bathys have a good soundstage?
Owner feedback mentions good soundstage as a positive attribute, though it wasn't described in specific detail. The sound profile is praised for versatility and enjoyable bass rather than a specifically wide or precise stage.
