They're both good, but different beasts. My main two are the Focal Bathys (with the BTD700) and HD490 pro. The HD 490 Pro sounds *better* than the Bathys with some songs, whilst others sound significantly worse. However the Bathys sound great with everything. Enjoy each for their strengths, but you'll ruin the experience if you make it a competition. Also, don't be married to your initial reaction.
